AI Use & Creative Integrity

1. Purpose

Dragon Gaming is built by people who play, run and create tabletop games, and we know how much the creative industries around this hobby value work made by human hands. This policy sets out, clearly and honestly, where and how generative artificial intelligence (AI) is and is not used across Dragon Gaming, so that members, guests and the wider community can trust what they see and read on our platforms.

This policy was written partly in response to members asking whether artwork used by Dragon Gaming, including original pieces drawn by co-founder Tim Burke, was AI generated. It was not. We want to be clear about that, and equally clear about the more mundane ways some of our administrative tooling works, so that no one is left guessing or feels misled either way.

2. Our commitment to creative integrity

All artwork, illustrations, branding and visual design produced for Dragon Gaming are created by named human contributors. No generative AI tool is used to create, generate or alter any image, illustration, graphic, logo or piece of visual artwork published under the Dragon Gaming name.

Every piece of original artwork progresses through the same process any hand-drawn work does: sketches, drafts, revisions and a finished piece, reviewed and refined by the artist over time. Where we can, we are happy to share process shots or drafts on request to demonstrate provenance.

In practice: All artwork and visual design for Dragon Gaming is currently created by Tim Burke (co-founder and director). Any future artists or contributors who provide creative work for Dragon Gaming will be held to the same standard and named here as they join.

This commitment also extends to other creative and community-facing output where authorship matters to members: published game material, guild branding and any commissioned creative content produced on Dragon Gaming’s behalf.

3. Administrative and technical tooling

Separately from creative output, Dragon Gaming directors might use AI-assisted tools in their day-to-day work: for example, to help design or refine internal policy documents, or to help build and maintain the website and membership systems that run Dragon Gaming’s guilds.

We think it is important to be upfront about this rather than stay silent on it. But we also don’t think it is the same kind of concern as AI-generated artwork, any more than using a spell-checker, a search engine or an accounting spreadsheet would be. These are tools that support the people doing the work; they do not do the work instead of them and they are never the source of anything creative that carries Dragon Gaming’s name.

  • Policy and governance documents: AI tools may be used to help structure or re-word text, but every document is written, reviewed, edited and formally approved by the Dragon Gaming board before publication. No policy is published on the strength of AI output alone.
  • Website and platform development: AI-assisted coding tools may be used to help modify or maintain the back-end systems that run guild management, bookings and reporting. This is software engineering support to increase efficiency and speed of development, not content creation and all code is built, reviewed and tested by a human developer before it goes live.
  • Absolutely nothing, whether a policy, a decision, a piece of correspondence or a public communication, is published without human authorship and sign-off from the board.

4. Member data and AI

Member data is never used to train, fine-tune or otherwise improve any AI model, whether by Dragon Gaming or by any third party. Where AI tools are used administratively, any interaction involving potential member information is first anonymised and handled in line with our Data Protection & Privacy Policy. No member data is ever uploaded to or processed by any AI tooling.

5. Scope

This policy sets out our position on creative and artistic output, which is where AI use in the TTRPG community is most sensitive, and draws an honest line to the more limited administrative tooling described in Section 3. It is not a claim that no software anywhere in Dragon Gaming’s operations has ever touched an AI system in any capacity; that would be an unrealistic promise for almost any modern organisation to make, and we would rather be accurate than sound impressive.

If you have any questions about this policy, or about how a specific piece of Dragon Gaming content was made, please get in touch with the board. We’re glad to talk about it.

We’d rather tell you exactly how something was made than let you wonder.
